Program Overview

Program Overview

The Lean Healthcare Black Belt is designed for healthcare professionals who are taking responsibility for building and managing Lean capability across their organization. Black Belt practitioners lead large-scale initiatives, align improvement activity to organizational strategy, and develop the Green Belts and Yellow Belts around them.

Black Belt participants complete a substantial work-based project that delivers measurable results for their organization. This is an investment in a practitioner who will generate sustained impact well beyond their own role.

At Black Belt the focus is the leadership system: organization-wide Lean QI capability, a daily management system (DMS) with leader standard work, and strategy deployment that connects improvement to accreditation and, in Ontario, your QIP. DMAIC is most explicit at this level.

At Orillia Soldiers' Memorial Hospital, a Lean Black Belt project cut falls-with-harm by 41%, the kind of system-level result this certification is built to deliver.

Build it in-house, the Lean QI way

Kindera Living, a long-term care operator with 11 homes across Ontario, has trained 45+ Green Belts and 91 Yellow Belts in-house since 2018, the capability that keeps improvement running after the project ends. Read the Kindera case study →

In LEA’s OpsScan benchmark of 55 improvement-engaged health-sector practitioners, most have built real improvement capability but few have embedded the daily operating system that sustains it. Begin with an OpsScan diagnostic, then a Focused Value Sprint to deliver measurable improvement.
